Precision

One of the lesser known of the Northampton Motorcycles

It is generally thought that the Precision motorcycle was manufactured by Frank Baker in Birmingham and not in Northampton and you would be correct. However if you have a look in Grace’s Guide you will see that there was another motorcycle of this name built between 1902 and 1906 which the Guide describes as “typically primitive and powered by a Minerva engine”. We then need to have a look at an article in the Northampton Chronicle & Echo by journalist Alan Burman in which he tells of a Mr. N L Adams from Lowestoft who came to Northampton to work for one of the other local firms but then set up on his own in Derngate and produced a motorcycle called the Precision. Whether these two are connected is anyone’s guess but there is an entry for Northampton Precision on the Sheldon’s EMU site together with an image; the entry reads: -

“Precision of Northampton

Manufactured by Precision Motor Co., Derngate, Northampton, 1902 to 1906. Offered complete machines powered by Minerva which they built under license to the French firm and also sold the engines separately.
